A pack of vandals left a homeless California man paralyzed from
the waist down after they allegedly beat him up and stabbed him
for telling them to scram, according to reports.
James Blue, 51, parked his blue Chevy pickup in its typical spot
behind a bar on W. Lincoln Ave. in Anaheim about 9:30 p.m. on
Sunday, his wife Sandra Blue told The Orange County Register.
James was sorting some scrap metal when four taggers walked into
his favorite lot and allegedly started spray painting the side
of a building, she said.
Blue, a neighborhood favorite known for volunteering at an area
food bank, decided to tell the vandals to beat it, according to
the newspaper. Blue said to go somewhere else and get out his
backyard, according to his wife of 23 years and the mother of
his three children.
But the toughs turned around and allegedly attacked with their
spray cans, bashing them into Blue before stabbing him three
times, the newspaper reported. Police say they may well have
killed Blue if a nearby business owner hadn't grabbed his gun
and fired multiple shots into the air, according to KCAL-TV. The
punks sped away in a blue Nissan Versa sedan, police told the
local newspaper.
But Blue was already in critical condition by the time emergency
personnel rushed to the scene, KABC-TV reported. By Monday, he
couldnt move his legs, and doctors labeled his injuries
serious, neighborhood residents told KCAL.
Police hadnt arrested any suspects on Tuesday night, the
Register reported. They also have yet to release the video of
the incident from a nearby security camera, according to KCAL.
Blues anguished wife and their friends from the neighborhood
are hoping someone will help officers track the vandals down,
they told the TV station.
Blue cannot walk today, while the people that did this to him
are still running around the streets free, area resident Brenda
Sutter told KCAL.
The local charity where Blue helps out, the Orange County Center
of Orthodox Christian nonprofit FOCUS North America, has started
a fundraising drive for him and his wife, according to its
website. Blue has been giving out meals to fellow homeless
people each week through the organization for the past five
years, director Jacob Lee told the Register.
He was a hardworking guy down on his luck, Lee said. He
really wanted to take advantage of the American dream. If this
had not happened to him, no doubt he would have made it. He was
was one of those guys that people make a movie about.
