When I went through Wood Badge over 20 years ago I recall being
required to buy a hatchet, polish the head to a shiny finish, and sand
the handle. I think it was used in the beading ceremony. As I never
finished my ticket, I didn't find out. Now that I have gone through
the "new" Wood Badge and finished my ticket (but didn't have to do the
Wood Badge hatchet thing) I am curious what the hatchet was used for,
if it was part of the beading ceremony, etc. Any one else polish a
hatchet as part of Wood Badge? My first course was SE-328, and the one
I am finishing up is C-29-01.
Thanks,
George

I went through SE-328 also at the ripe old age of 18. I was in the Eagle Patrol and my Dad was in the Antelope Patrol. What patrol were you in? I polished an axe. It was more of an optional thing but I seem to remember almost if not everyone did either a hatchet or an axe.I finished my ticket and then served on the staff of the last Wood Badge course offered in the Delta Area Council but I can't remember that course.
